Lunch with friends…

Sunday
Oct 19,2008

I had this very nice meal with some friends yesterday at my house… we didn’t have anything in mind when they got here, but we all love Chilaquiles or Nachos (Tortilla chips with chicken, cheese and sauce)… So we just started making stuff without a clear image in mind.  Our final product was amazing! And since I had so many photos I figured I’d share the recipe with you!

What you’ll need:

  • Tortillas (If you can get real tortillas you can cut them in 4 and fry them or just use normal tortilla chips)
  • Chicken
  • Fried beans (I think you can get canned ones at the supermarket)
  • Cheese (the kind that melts easily)
  • Cheese like parmesan or something similar
  • Chunky tomato sauce (something like those sauces that come in jars, we have them in jars here… )
  • And a bunch of friends to help you out! (not necessary, but it sure makes it more fun!)

The hard part is to get everything ready to prepare it, once you are done the rest is easy…

1.  Prepare the tortillas (in case you have to fry them), the chicken (I used 4 chicken breasts, some water, salt, a bit of tomato, pepper and onion, you’ll need the broth afterwards), the beans( fry them in case you don’t get canned, already made fried beans).  For the sauce, just use a couple of jars of salsa and add the broth, boil it until it’s a bit thick…

Everything should look like this…

Salsa and Beans

Chicken

Tortillas

2. Once all that is ready is time to get ready for the good part!

Try to add the chicken to the tortillas, my friend just started adding handfuls of chicken everywhere she could, trying to make sure there was chicken everywhere.

Then, spread the friends beans over that… don’t worry, you don’t have to get chicken everywhere like with the chicken just over the whole thing…

Next, put pour the sauce over the tortillas, try to make enough sauce to get sauce everywhere, you’ll want your chilaquiles nice and moist… then just add the grated cheese…

Since our entire planned changed when we were making them, and ended up with one big pan of chilaquiles I figured we should put them in the oven a few minutes to get the cheese to melt a little… so, just turn on the oven at 350 degrees and leave them there for about ten minutes… And you’ll get something that should look as yummy as this…

Yummy Chilaquiles!

Give it a try, or improvise… You really won’t regret it!

Oh, and if you are in a desperate need of a really quick dessert just take a couple of boxes of jello (any flavor really) and a can of sweetened milk.

Make the jello like directed on the box/Pour the sweetened milk in the blender with the jello and blend! :-P/Pour it on a pan, you can add some fruits, but they are not necessary and take it to the fridge… Just let it set and enjoy! (I don’t add a photo, because mine suffered an accident when I was going to serve it…

Vinyl lettering is the newest craze in home décor. It’s easy to apply and can be completely customized to fit your home. Vinyl lettering can be applied to a number of surfaces such as wood, glass, walls, windows, tile, and metal. The options for vinyl lettering are endless. You can choose any quote, font, and color. Vinyl lettering works great for Super Saturday projects, craft nights, Girls Camp, and Young Women’s activities.

Vinyl lettering is similar to a rub on sticker. Before you apply the vinyl, be sure that the area you will be applying it to is clean and dry. If you have just painted a surface make sure the paint is dry before applying the vinyl. To make application easier, you can mark the application area with a pencil. One of the most common mistakes is not applying the lettering in a straight line. Marking the area will help you to avoid this mistake.

The lettering arrives on a piece of vinyl paper with application tape on top. Firmly rub the application tape with a hard surface such as a Popsicle stick, credit card or squeegee. To apply the lettering, slowly pull the application tape away from the paper. The vinyl will stick to the application tape. If your vinyl is not sticking to the application tape simply rub that area again. Once you have the all the lettering on the application tape you can then position it. Be careful not to let the vinyl touch the application surface before you have it exactly where you want it. The best way to do this is to hold the application tape be the edges and position it where you want it. Once you have it where you want it gently rub over the tape with your hand to secure it in place, then use your hard surface (Popsicle stick, credit card or squeegee) and press firmly. Be sure to rub over the surface several times to insure the vinyl is secure. Then remove the application tape by slowly pull it off at an angle. If you have a letter that is staying on the tape then you once again rub the area that you are having a problem with. This should secure the vinyl to your surface.

To remove the vinyl from a surface, hold a hair dryer to the vinyl for about 20 seconds. The vinyl will then peel away from the surface without damaging anything. Because vinyl can be removed without any damage, you can put up vinyl for special occasions without worry.

Great ideas using vinyl lettering are generated every day, let us help you create something wonderful!

Simple as taking candy…

Thursday
Aug 28,2008

I often like to put out a dish of candy, after dinner mints, etc. when I am having guests over. Trouble is, I don’t have a candy dish. Seems they are always getting broken (can’t seem to keep anything made of glass around here).

So, here’s a little something for when you just need a little bowl to put some candy in.

Here’s what you need:

Card Stock
scissors
mini brads (or glue will due)

Here’s what you do:

  • Cut your cardstock to any size square that can be divided by 3.
  • Score fold lines so that your paper has 9 squares.
  • Cut center folds on opposite sides, only to center box edge. (See pic)
  • Round the corners (if you choose)
  • Fold up the rounded sides to meet in front of the middle squares.
  • Finish with a mini brad, or just glue.

There you go…easy as taking candy…well, you know the rest. :)
