Memorial Day is just a few weeks away and it is time to start thinking about what you are going to do as of decorating the house. It is also a fun time to do crafts with the kids because much of May is rainy, or at least has been as of late.

Materials Needed:

2 miniature paper plates

Star-shaped foam stamp

Red acrylic paint

Red and blue glitter glue

Gold alphabet stickers

Patriotic star garland

White craft glue

White yarn

Scissors

Instructions:

Cut a piece of yarn to 14” in length.

Cut patriotic garland into six 16” pieces.

Glue two paper plates together so that they are both facing toward each other.

While glue on plates is still wet, place yarn into the top between the two plates, insert about an inch of each end between the plates. Do the same with the garland lengths, securing them between the bottom of the paper plates. Let dry completely.

Paint star-shaped foam stamp with a thin layer of red paint. Press carefully but firmly into the center of the plate (don’t smash the plate) and lift straight up to remove.

Use a paintbrush to fill in any spots on the star that may not have transferred from the stamp.

Squeeze some red glitter glue onto the center of the red star and spread out using a small paintbrush, covering entire star.

Use white glitter glue to draw a border around the star.

Use blue glitter glue to draw a border around the plate edge. Let dry completely.

Apply alphabet stickers to the top of the plate, spelling out “WELCOME”.

Wrap the garland around your fingers in a corkscrew fashion to create curls. Stretch them out and manipulate with your hands to get them how you want them.

It has been a long time since I posted and I have been scrapbooking and crafting but just not a lot of time left to post, but I really enjoyed doing this project so I thought I would share. I have been looking for a large, 24″ wood wall clock that I could finish and Provo Craft used to sell them but I guess they had problems with the hands and clock works so they quit making them, I finally found another store that makes them, http://www.thewallclock.com and it was exactly what I wanted. So here is the before and after pictures. We ended up using these clocks for one of our churches super saturdays, they were really easy and the best part was, we finished them all on the same night. (sometimes we start projects and never get them done). This was easy, we just spray painted the numbers, then sanded off the excess paint, then used a small paint roller and painted over the numbers, the paint didn’t go into the recessed numbers, ( did have to touch up the numbers just a little, too much paint on the roller) then we used a spray stain to finish it off and accent it. I love my new Families are Forever clock. PS some of the clocks had peoples names, for example, Smith established 1973, they were very cute.

SO here is the after photo:

It is summer time and that means that there will probably be parites going on. One thing that you see at most parties are streamers or for tropical themed parties leis. Instead of going out and buying boring streamers, why not make these great looking lei streamers. This project is easy to do and comes with an easy to follow tutorial. You will be able to save money and have great party decoration. These also make a great lei itself and will be much cheaper than going out and buying premade leis. You can also add plastic flowers on it to look more like a lei.

I found this old picture frame with a picture of the ocean in the back ground and really liked the frame but didn’t really want the scenery so I got it and thought some day I would find a good use for it. Well the day came when I saw some thin wood letters at the craft store and decided to make a collage of sorts, so I designed them to look like scrapbook pages but spell out the word love. I painted the frame and ran an ink stamp pad across the edges for a little more depth. Then just embellished each section of the frame.

If nothing else, my granddaughter loves it, so guess who will be getting this picture frame?

I decided to use the 9 inch wood letters from Provo Crafts again. This time I took a 12″x12″ board, press board is really cheap, it is about $.50 for a 12″x12″ piece. I bought a large 4′X8′ piece because we were doing a class and needed lots of boards. You might be able to get a lumber store to cut a small piece. Anyway the pressboard is pretty inexpensive. Then I painted it black, you don’t even need to sand it, actually you shouldn’t sand pressboard or it will just crumble. Pick out a 12″x12″ scrapbook paper and trim it down about 1/2″ to 1″ on each side, it is totally up to you how much of an edge you want. Then use spray glue to stick the paper onto the wood. You can paint your board any color to co-ordinate with your paper, it doesn’t have to be black. Then paint your wood letter just on the front, once it is dry just hot glue it to the board. You can sand down the edges of the letter for a ruffed up look or leave a smooth finish. Now get an easle and set it up on a table on on the floor by the fireplace. Really great looking gift idea and the best part is, you can make this craft for around $5.00
