I love candles. I like to burn them and I like to decorate with them. I have started making candles for each season/holiday as they come around. This is the first one that I did and I think it will be a hit for decorating this autumn/Halloween season.
Materials Needed:
- Halloween rubber stamps
- Candle
- Pigment or embossing ink
- Embossing powders
- Tissue paper in the same color as the candle
- Craft heat gun
- Glue stick
- Scissors or craft knife
Instructions:
1. Carefully stamp the image onto tissue paper as required. Ink can seep through the tissue paper, therefore ensure that work surfaces are protected well.
2. Emboss the images as required. Embossing the images will give added depth and make the images stand out from the background.
3. Carefully cut the images from the tissue paper. This does not need to be too precise as the tissue paper will bond to the surface of the candle and the edges will blend into the candle.
4. Use the glue stick to apply a dab of glue to the stamped image. Place this on the candle in the required place. Use the heat gun to carefully heat the surface of the candle. As the wax melts the surface of the candle looks shiny – remove the heat at this point. The tissue paper should have bonded to the surface of the candle and be almost invisible. If parts of the tissue remain visible, reheat the wax carefully until the remaining parts have bonded. Tip: Use the back of a spoon to smooth any drips in the candle wax.
5. Apply any further images as required.
Enjoy!
Variations
- Using a rubber stamp with a bold outline and coloring the image with marker pens or pencils will give a ’stained glass’ effect
- Add glitter to give further sparkle to the candle
- These candles make lovely gifts – present the candle in a matching gift bag
