Silhouettes are really coming back into style, and I was inspired by a post I read at the Thompson Family-Life blog to try my hand at making silhouettes of my children. Danielle posted a fully detailed tutorial, but I didn’t have any cool fabric like she uses, and I changed it up a bit to fit my style.
First, I took a side view photo of each child against a solid colored background. Using photo editing software, I easily removed the background from the picture, then adjusted the lighting and contrast until the face turned completely black. I printed it and cut it out with an Xacto knife. (If you don’t have any photo editing software, then follow the directions at the Thompson Family Life blog.) Then I took a small wooden craft panel, painted white, and chose a decorative scrapbooking paper to put on top. I traced the shape of the panel onto the paper, cut it out, and glued it to the front of the panel. Then I glued the silhouette on top. To make the hanger, I used hot glue to attach a ribbon to the back. Very simple craft, and it looks so elegant when finished!
